2009 Q4 Apocalypse

October 25th PAGE CC hosted an epic Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse showdown, first in hopefully a series of events.

A large contingent of Chaos forces breached the Immaterium and assaulted the almost forgotten Imperial world of Caldor IV. Although their objectives in assaulting the planet were indecipherable to the emperor's best strategos, the incursion clearly had to be halted lest the forces of darkness gain some unforeseen advantage. In just one small part of the planet wide battle, Imperial forces moved quickly to establish a perimeter in the surrounding ruins of one of Caldor IV's largest cities, waiting in anticipation for the armies of the Warp to crash down upon it.

Setup and Goals

Several tables were put together to make a 15'x6' board. Slightly less than half the board along the long edge was reasonably filled with city ruins, tapering off to somewhat more open terrain on one short edge.

Imperials began in control of five bunkers within the city, and the battle was fought for those objectives, each side respectively looking to establish or breach a perimeter around the city...

Both sides took a long table edge. Chaos deployed up to two feet from their edge. Imperials placed units, barricades, barbed wire, and tank traps, anywhere within a three foot deployment zone along their edge. The five bunkers were placed by the Imperials within the middle foot of their deployment zone at roughly 30" intervals.

Imperials, as the defender, deployed first but, as the attacker, Chaos went first, with nightfighting rules in effect the first turn.

Results

The game played through 5 complete turns in 9 and a half hours, including setup, deployment, teardown, and a break for dinner. Final result was a draw! Imperials and Chaos both held one each of the original five objectives, with the others all contested. In addition, Bjorn the Fell-Handed made an appearance but was cut down in the battle, creating another objective in the Chaos deployment zone that was also hotly contested in the end.
