War of the Rats: A Shadow War: Armageddon Narrative League

Deadly Skirmish Combat In A World the Imperium Forgot

Imperial Designation: VR-138. Local name: Chalcydon. Historical note: pre-Heresy Legiones Astartes black site. Inquisitorial quarantine in effect.

Located in a desolate and forgotten region on the fringes of the Imperium, Chalcydon first entered the Imperial archives immediately after the Horus Heresy, when it was discovered that the Death Guard Legion had established a manufacturing and testing site for proscribed weapons on the planet. Infighting among the Adeptus Mechanicus in the chaotic period after the Heresy prevented the planet form being formally reclaimed by the Imperium, but the planet was eventually settled by a rather heterodox Ecclesiarchical delegate who was ignorant of the planet's history. Although not a death world, the planet's environment was not especially hospitable and contact with the settlers was soon lost. For thousands of year, the planet has lain dormant: another ghost among the stars.

With the recent seizure of a Rogue Trader's cargo, it has come to light that not only is Chalcydon still inhabited, it is an untouched treasure trove of pre-Heresy archaeotech. With no time to spare, the factions of the 41st millennium dispatched exploratory teams to recover the ancient technology. Prepare for drop, you're going in...

What is it?

War of the Rats is a free narrative league using the Shadow War: Armageddon rules. Relive the glory days of Necromunda as your kill team ransacks the archaeotech troves of the recently-discovered fringe world Chalcydon. Will you scavenge the ancient halls, taking what scraps you can, or will you find the legendary vault? And if you do, will you make it out alive?

Players acquire Salvage throughout the campaign (interchangeable with Promethium Caches from the Shadow War: Armageddon rules). The first player to collect 18 Salvage (or the player with the most Salvage at the end of the league) will be proclaimed the victor. Along the way, you'll meet (and recruit) Hired Guns, get the drop on your competition with Strategic Resources, and battle through Special Events.

You'll get the most out of the league if you're able to attend scheduled league days at Redcap's Corner at 3850 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia PA. If you can't make it to the shop, though, don't worry - players are always allowed to schedule games at a time and location of their own convenience.

Let's get started

Construct your kill team to a maximum value of 1,000 points using the Shadow War: Armageddon rules. The following factions are in play:

Space Marine Scout Kill Teams
Astra Militarum Veteran Kill Teams
Ork Boyz Kills Teams
Chaos Space Marine Kill Teams
Dark Eldar Wych Cult Kill Teams
Craftworld Eldar Kill Teams
Genestealer Cult Hybrid Kill Teams
Grey Knights Kill Teams
Harlequin Troupe Kill Teams
Necron Kill Teams
Skitarii Ranger Kill Teams
Tau Pathfinder Kill Teams
Tyranid Warrior Kill Teams

Space Marines, Astra Militarum, and Ork Boyz kill teams can be found in the Shadow War rules. Additional Kill teams can be found on the Games Workshop website: https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/ShadowWar/SWA_Killteams_ENG.pdf

Players who register in advance by sending their name, faction, and team name to therats@headwoundminis.com will receive a bonus Strategic Resource before the league begins. In addition, if you send a short piece of background detailing your team, you'll receive 1 free Salvage!

Kill Teams need not be painted, but a few weeks into the campaign you will be invited to submit pictures of your team. The player whose team is voted best painted by league participants will earn 1 free Salvage.

Contact therats@headwoundminis.com if you need help creating your kill team.

Prepare for battle

There will be a teaching game/roster workshop/trash talking session at Redcap's Corner on Thursday, May 4 at 6:30 pm. The league kicks off at Redcap's on Sunday, May 7 at 1:00 pm and continues until Friday, June 23.

The bonus Salvage/Promethium that is earned before any missions, can it/they be used to purchase "SPECIAL OPERATIVES" for the players kill team?

Yes sir. That means you could take an Operative in your first game if you wanted to spend the Salvage.

Announcing: hired guns!

Hired Guns may be added to any Kill Team's roster following the rules for Special Operatives. A Hired Gun may be employed by any Kill Team, regardless of faction (life is cheap on the galactic frontier, and alliances shift frequently!). This means a Hired gun may be added to a Kill Team for one game in exchange for 1 Salvage. They do not gain advances and they leave the Kill Team after the battle.

Because they are unique characters, each Hired Gun may only be employed by one Kill Team at a time. On league nights, models for each of the Hired Guns will be available, and the game master will randomly determine the order in which each player will be allowed to recruit one Hired gun. If playing at home, players may proxy the Hired Gun with a suitable model, and should roll off to determine who may choose to add a Hired Gun first.

Available Hired Guns:

Hi folks -

I just found out I have family coming into town, so our shadow war league will start on Sunday, May 7 at 1:00. I know the Infinity players are in the store on Sundays, but we'll manage. I'll still be around for learning games on Thursday! and if you've already registered (or register by this weekend), you'll get an email with your strategic resource before Sunday.

I have three registered kill teams and an additional 6-8 people who are talking about joining. I also have my own kill team which I'll run as needed.

Damn it, interwebs. I keep trying to reply to your blog and it doesn't work, something about an ID:10T error?

Anyway, love this Hexorcist to pieces.
